چکیده
Since 1988, when the World Health Assembly resolved to eradicate polio, the number of polio cases worldwide has decreased from 350,000 to fewer than 800 cases in 2003. This was achieved through high vaccination coverage, augmented by quality surveillance for acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) and mop-up vaccination campaigns. Although the European region was certified “poliofree” in 2002, as long as wild polio continues to circulate in other parts of the world, Ireland is at risk of polio importation. 2 3
